Listen and listen some more

Excerpt from “99 Tips for Talking with Your Teenager:”

Tip #4: Listen and listen some more. Try not to solve your teen’s issue or conflict of the day. Rather, give your child a chance to air the issue and then acknowledge the difficulty of the dilemma.

Commentary from ACS Executive Director, Dr.Philippe Rey:

Listen more than talk. Young people have spent at least a decade as listeners in most situations. During adolescence, they want and need the chance to share their feelings and ideas and to begin recasting family beliefs, stories, and traditions in light of their changing identity.
